Basically, this is distilled water. Terms such as washing water or ironing water, which is available with or without a fragrance, are appearing more and more frequently. The particular advantage of this special water is that it effectively prevents limescale deposits in the iron. Some products are filled directly into the steam iron, while others are simply spread on the laundry.
Finally, ironing water is demineralized and contains no salt. This protects the iron from limescale and spreads a pleasant, long-lasting scent when it evaporates thanks to the essential oils it contains. Alternatively, you can add a drop of perfume to the ironing water, for example, to get a very special scent.
In our ironing water comparison, we have already mentioned that the differences are actually only in the ingredients of the water. In the following we would like to briefly explain what the difference actually is.
Depending on how old your iron is, you can easily use distilled water or tap water. However, the degree of hardness of the water plays an important role here, because if it is too high, the tap water should always be mixed with the distilled water. If you use a Dampfnudel station, however, distilled water is not an advantage at all. Usually, these stations have an automatic descaling function, so distilled water is more harmful than good.
What could be nicer than pleasantly scented laundry? It is certainly very pleasant when ironing, but not really recommended, at least according to the numerous ironing water test reports. The essential oils or other fragrances that are in this water will damage the heating plate of the iron over the years. So that this does not happen in the first place, the experiences of various customers show that ironing water can be dispensed with.
Actually, it's not that difficult, because only a few things are needed. The basic requirement is, of course, an empty bottle with a capacity of at least 0,5 or 1,0 liters. Now the bottle is filled with tap water or distilled water accordingly. You can then easily add five to six drops of essential oils or your own perfume.
Of course, you can vary the number of drops to adjust the fragrance intensity to your own wishes. Finally, the bottle is shaken well so that the oil is evenly distributed in the water. Lavender is particularly popular as a scent, as this scent keeps moths from nesting in clothes.
