Steens Honey is New Zealand's leading producer of high-quality UMF Manuka honey. The company was founded by Paul and Sheryl Steens with the aim of bringing higher quality manuka honey to the market, honey that is raw, unpasteurized and minimally processed, just as nature intended. We have been keeping bees for over 34 years, so we know what honey is all about. It would not occur to us to expose manuka honey to high temperatures. With us, the heat is not turned on 70C to make the honey creamy. Studies have shown that the flavonoids and enzymes that give manuka honey its unique texture, are damaged by heating. Most commercial honey products are made creamy, meaning that the honey is processed twice and the natural crystals are melted out to make it supple. Steens Manuka honey is different. Our honey is raw and unpasteurised, which means that the natural crystals are retained. As if you would dip your finger directly into the honeycombs! RAW, COLD PRESSED MANUKA HONEY: In comparison to other Manuka honey Steens Manuka honey is unique because it is not heated up like creamy honey. In a proprietary process, we squeeze our manuka honey cold. This means that the manuka honey is processed at hive temperatures (36C). This ensures that the nutritional values, vegetable phenols, flavonoids and enzymes are left in the honey. Over the years of 30, we have been constantly working to refine this process with scientific methods.
